My landlord tried to evict me over a $35 broken window latch in June, so I countersued for the mold he ignored for 8 months
I ended up winning $1,200 in small claims court, but now he won't cash the check I'm supposed to pay him back for the latch, has anyone else dealt with a landlord who just stops talking after you win?

Oh man that's actually a genius move on his part in a really annoying way lol. If he never cashes the check then technically you still owe him that money and he could try to use it against you later for something like not fulfilling the court order. You might want to just document everything and send the check certified mail so you have proof of trying to pay. Honestly though he might be trying to make you look bad to other tenants or to drag this out until you give up. Just keep that paper trail clean and maybe check with the court clerk if there's a way to deposit the money with them instead.

Last time my landlord tried something like this, I accidentally paid him three times in one month because I was paranoid about the paper trail. Now I have a folder labeled "Dumb Landlord Games" with like 14 certified mail receipts and a note to myself that says "stop trying to out-crazy the crazy." At this point I'm pretty sure the court clerk knows me by my first name and probably thinks I'm the one running some kind of payment scam.

Pay the check amount into the court registry instead and let them deal with it. I learned that the hard way after I spent three months chasing down a landlord who ghosted me over a $50 utility bill I was trying to pay.
