Heard a kid at the farmer's market explain composting to his mom and it blew my mind
I was at the Saturday market in Portland last week, and this boy, maybe 7 or 8 years old, told his mom that throwing apple cores in the trash is 'wasting carbon for the future.' She just stared at him. I ended up asking where he learned it. Turns out his school has a worm bin program that teaches kids how food scraps turn into soil. It made me rethink how simple we make climate action for adults. Has anyone else seen schools doing this kind of hands on stuff?

That "wasting carbon for the future" line from the kid really hit me too. It's amazing how something that simple can completely change the way you look at everyday trash. I wish more schools had programs like that, it makes climate action feel doable instead of overwhelming.

And honestly, the worm bin thing is way easier to start than people think. I built a simple one for my backyard out of a couple of storage totes, drilled some holes, and the kids at my nephew's school showed him how to layer bedding and food scraps. The trick is keeping the moisture right - too wet and it gets stinky, too dry and everything slows down. A good layer of shredded newspaper or cardboard on top every time you add scraps really helps keep the smell down and the worms happy.

Respectfully @jennifer_jones17, moisture is still a pain to get right in my experience, even with the cardboard trick.
