Talking to that retired farmer down the street about soil carbon...
He told me how they used to plow under cover crops back in the 70s just to keep the ground alive, and I never really thought about what that does for emissions. Has anyone else had a conversation with an older person that made you look at carbon storage differently?

Huh, that’s a good point. What gets me is how those older guys didn’t have any fancy gadgets or tests, they just paid attention to what the land was telling them. Makes me wonder if we’re overcomplicating it now with all the tech and paperwork.

Listened to an old cattle rancher explain how rotating grazing actually puts carbon back in the soil. He said they did it for decades without ever knowing about carbon credits. Made me realize modern farming might need to look backwards more than forwards.

You've seen that too, huh? My old man used to move the herd every few days on our place back in the 80s, just because that's what his dad taught him. He always said the grass came back thicker and the cows looked better. Funny how they figured out what works without needing a certificate or a middleman to tell them.
