TIL my neighbor was right about rain barrels saving money on my water bill
Mr. Chen from two doors down told me last spring that installing a 50 gallon rain barrel would cut my summer water usage by like 30%. I finally set one up in June and my July bill dropped $18. Has anyone else had a neighbor give advice that actually worked out better than expected?

WAIT your uncle saved $40 a MONTH just from line drying? That's INSANE, I thought my rain barrel savings were good but that's a whole different level.

Ha, that reminds me of my uncle who swore by hanging wet laundry outside and saved like $40 a month on his dryer bill!

Doesn't the $40 savings kind of depend on what kind of dryer you had and your local electricity rates? In my experience, those old gas dryers actually cost way less to run than the electric ones.
