Remember when you could just tap a part and call it good?
Honestly, last week I had a weird chatter issue on an old VF-2 machining a 4140 part. Tried everything, speeds, feeds, tool holder, you name it. Tbh, the fix was the dumbest thing, a tiny bit of runout in the collet nut I'd used for years. Ngl, that cost me a whole Friday afternoon. Anyone else have a simple part that turned into a half-day headache?

Yeah, "half-day headache" hits home. It's always the small stuff you overlook because it's never been a problem before. Makes you feel a bit silly when you finally find it.

Used to think it was always a big, complex problem. But after chasing a weird noise for an afternoon (just a loose heat shield rattling) I totally get it now.

Read a forum post once where a guy chased a finish issue for hours. Turned out to be a single worn-out screw on a coolant line bracket.
