TIL my simple Python script has run over 1,000 times without me noticing.

I set up a basic script to rename files in a folder six months ago and just checked the log, which made me realize how much small, automated tasks can add up.

It's wild how those little scripts just keep chugging along... I had one that checked a website for a product to come back in stock. Forgot about it for a year and found it had sent me over eight hundred emails. Most of them were just "nope, still not in stock" but it finally worked. The computer just does the boring work forever.

Honestly @wood.uma, I set up a simple cron job for that and it just runs forever without flooding my inbox.

That's the beauty of automation, just set it and forget it. Reminds me of @wood.uma's story about the stock checker, those quiet background tasks are the real MVPs.

My old script that backs up my photos ran 4,327 times before I noticed it. I felt so clever until I saw it had been saving empty folders for months because I typed the path wrong. Automation is great when you don't mess up the one job you gave it.
