Why does nobody talk about how bad most coding tutorials are for beginners?
I tried learning Python last month and every tutorial jumps straight into loops and functions before explaining what a variable actually does. It took me 3 hours on YouTube just to find one guy who broke it down like I was 5. Why is this so hard to find?

3 hours on YouTube seems like a lot of effort for something that's basically free and everywhere. Are you sure the problem isn't just that learning to code takes patience no matter how good the tutorial is?

Man I used to think tutorials were fine and people just needed to try harder. But then I tried teaching my cousin Python and everything you said hit me. I realized most tutorials are made by people who already know the stuff so they skip the basic building blocks. It's like they forget what it's like to not know what a variable even does. That simple explanation you found is gold and it shouldn't take hours to find something so basic. Makes me wonder how many people just give up because of bad tutorials.

emma_garcia I feel that so hard. Teaching my nephew made me realize I start every explanation with "so it's basically like..." and then I just go blank. I spent 20 minutes once trying to explain what a function was and ended up talking about sandwiches.
