I thought my buddy was nuts for weighing his coffee beans on a $20 scale
My friend Dale has been roasting his own beans in a popcorn popper for about 8 months now, and he kept telling me a cheap kitchen scale would fix the sour taste in my morning brew. I figured he was just being a coffee snob about it until I tried it for a week and realized I was scooping almost 30 percent more grounds than I thought, which was why my cups tasted muddy. Does anyone else weigh their beans, or am I the only one who waited way too long to try it?
Wait, you went a whole week before figuring out you were over scooping by that much? I feel your pain though. I did the same thing for months with a coffee scoop I got in a gift set, just eyeballing it and wondering why some days were great and some days tasted like wet dirt. Turns out the scoop was way off from what I assumed. A cheap scale changed everything for me too and now I can't go back. How much did your cups change once you dialed in the right amount?
