PSA: Stop storing your beans in that clear hopper on top of your grinder
I see this in almost every home setup photo and it drives me nuts, that clear plastic hopper on a grinder is basically a display case for stale coffee. Light and oxygen are the two worst things for beans and that hopper gives them both for free, so a $22 bag of single origin from my local roaster in Portland tastes flat in about 9 days instead of the 3 to 4 weeks it should last. I tested this myself, same beans split into the hopper and a sealed dark canister, and by day 10 the hopper beans had zero crema and tasted like cardboard. Roasters put those one way valve bags on for a reason, so keep beans in the bag or a sealed opaque jar and just weigh out what you need each morning. If you want fast access, get a small airtight canister that holds one or two days worth and refill it from the main bag. Anyone else made this mistake and noticed the drop off, or am I the only one who wasted half a bag figuring it out?
