Warning: spent $85 on a burr grinder that turned out to be a fake, here is how I figured it out
Bought a hand grinder off a site I will not name for $85 shipped, listed as having steel burrs and a 40 click adjustment. The photos looked right and the seller had good feedback, so I paid without thinking twice. Three weeks in, my pour overs started tasting muddy and the grind looked really uneven no matter what setting I used. I pulled the burr out to clean it and found stamped metal with a wobbly axle, not the machined steel the listing showed. A guy at my local shop in Cleveland took one look and said the whole thing was a known clone sold under a dozen names. I am out the $85 and shipping both ways, so close to a hundred bucks gone. Has anyone found a real hand grinder under $100, or should I just save up longer?
