My comic book box gave out right before the local con

I was carrying a long box full of my 90s X-Men books to the car last Saturday, and the bottom just ripped open. Comics went everywhere in the driveway. Had to use a roll of packing tape and a laundry basket as a quick fix. Anyone else have a storage disaster right when you needed your stuff to hold together?

Watched my buddy's entire collection of vintage baseball cards slide off his tailgate and into a rain puddle. He was on his way to a trade night and just stood there in shock. We spent an hour trying to dry them out on paper towels in his backseat. The worst part was hearing that little cardboard soaking sound, you know?

Honestly how much money are we even talking about here. It's just cardboard with pictures on it, right. That soaking sound is kind of funny when you think about it. People get way too attached to stuff.

Yeah, the "just cardboard with pictures" thing is exactly what I mean. It's not about the stuff itself, it's about what it means to the person. Like what happened to @tessaperry's friend, that's a whole story and a plan gone wrong. We all do it, we tie our memories and hopes to objects. So when they get ruined, it feels like a piece of your past or a future plan is just... washing away. That's the real loss, not the cardboard.
