Hot take: wet welding vs dry welding for shallow repairs - which side are you on?
I used a wet weld trick on a pier leg repair last month instead of hauling out for a dry chamber job, and it held up fine for the client, but my partner swears dry is always safer under 30 feet. Which method do you guys trust for quick shallow fixes and why?

And it's the same pattern with people who think you need a special tool for every simple job around the house.

Fiona_carr26, you've nailed it. A good adjustable wrench and a multitool handle 90% of what people think they need a specialty shop for. What's the one tool you've kept around that actually made a difference?

Haulout costs are basically a tax on people who like doing things the expensive way. Wet welding under 30 feet is fine if you know what you're doing and the water is calm enough to see your own hands. Your partner probably thinks dry chambers are safer because he watched a training video once and now he's an expert on everything. Funny how the guys who worry most about safety are usually the ones who haven't actually done the job in real conditions. A quick shallow repair with proper prep and a decent weld holds just fine, saves the client a ton of money, and gets you back on the boat drinking coffee instead of waiting around for a dry setup.
