Just realized I've been using the wrong thermal paste method for years

I was watching a tech rebuild a gaming rig at the local PC shop and saw him apply a tiny dot, not the whole spread. My client's CPU temps dropped 8 degrees Celsius after I switched to his method. What's your go-to paste technique for Ryzen chips?

Oh wow, I read that the pea method can leave the corners bare on some chips. A thin X pattern covers better for those.

Guess my old "spread it like butter" method was just making a thermal paste sandwich (whoops).

The pea method is fine until you get a chip with a weird heat spreader layout. Saw a video where someone mapped the hot spots on a Ryzen IHS, totally changes where you should put the paste.

Bro that's overthinking it big time. Just spread a thin layer and call it a day, works on everything.
