TIL that cross-checking flight radar data with ship tracking sites actually showed a weird pattern near that 'missing' cargo plane story from March.

I got curious after seeing the headlines and spent an hour on FlightAware and MarineTraffic, and the timestamps and locations just didn't add up the way the initial reports said, so has anyone else tried digging into raw data like this to fact-check a story?

Yeah, that's a smart way to look at it. I've tried that with a few other news stories, and the raw data often tells a different tale. Did you find a specific gap between the ship's reported location and where the plane supposedly was?

Wow, my buddy found a 50-mile gap once, @erickelly, it was wild.

The gap was so big, @erickelly, you could probably fit another missing plane in there.
