Ditched my old laser level for a green beam model and wow what a difference

I was using a red beam rotary level for foundation layout work on a dusty jobsite near Austin. Switched to a green beam unit last Tuesday and I could actually see the line in full daylight without waiting for dusk. Has anyone else found the extra cost for green worth it on bright jobsites?

Yeah the green holds way better in dust and full sun, red just disappears.

Read a study from some university out west that tested this exact thing. They found red pigments literally break down faster under UV light compared to green or blue ones, especially on rough surfaces. The dust thing makes sense too - green paint has way more contrast against tan or gray dust so it pops better even when dirty. Reds just turn into this muddy brown mess after a season or two in direct sun. Same reason you see so many barns painted red but they all look faded and terrible after a few years. The science checks out on this one.

Haven't you ever noticed how many old red trucks and tractors still have that deep color after decades in the sun though? My grandpa's old Ford from the 70s is still a solid red and it sat outside every day of its life, no cover. I think a lot depends on the actual paint quality and prep work, not just the pigment type.
