A client's offhand comment about her sister's hair loss from a cheap keratin treatment last year made me double-check my supplier's ingredient sheets.
She said her sister went to a budget salon in Toledo and the stylist used a treatment with formaldehyde levels way over the safe limit, which caused major breakage and scalp irritation that took six months to start recovering from, so now I'm paranoid and want to know if any of you have a go-to brand for truly safe smoothing treatments you'd trust on your own hair?

Honestly that's a scary story, did her sister ever report the salon or the product brand to anyone? Tbh I'd be checking for lawsuits against that specific treatment. What did your supplier say when you asked them about their formaldehyde levels, because that's the real test right there.

I used to agree with you until my cousin had a similar reaction.

You're jumping straight to lawsuits and blaming the salon. That "real test" with the supplier misses the point. Sometimes bad reactions just happen with beauty treatments, even with safe products. The sister might have had a weird allergy nobody knew about. Going after the brand first thing turns a personal health issue into a legal fight that helps nobody. Maybe the focus should be on her getting better, not finding someone to sue.
