Update: I tried a 'cold perm' on a client with fine hair in Dallas and it actually gave her incredible volume that lasted for 8 weeks.
I learned that the traditional 'warm' processing time was frying her hair type, so I cut the solution time down to just 12 minutes and got a much better, bouncier result-has anyone else had success tweaking chemical service times for fine hair?

Did you test the hair's porosity first to set your timing?

Porosity tests are a starting point but they don't tell the whole story. My 2C hair can be low porosity in some spots and high in others, so a single test is misleading. I go by how the hair feels during the process, like if it starts to suck up moisture too fast. Timing from a chart never works as well as watching what your actual hair is doing.

That's so true, hair is never just one thing all over. Learning its moods is the real trick.
