Why does nobody talk about posting client photos without asking?

It feels wrong even if they look amazing.

Remember that some clients have private stuff they don't want online. What if they're hiding from an ex or something? Just because the photos look great doesn't mean they want everyone to see them.

Seriously, Derek's take is wild. It's not just about exes, it could be a foster kid whose bio family can't know their location, or someone in witness protection. You can't assume their safety isn't on the line. A quick consent checkbox when they book is zero hassle and covers you legally.

Even amazing photos don't justify skipping consent, which is the whole point.

Look, if a client hires you for photos, they probably expect you to use them for your portfolio. It's how we show our work and get more jobs. The photos are meant to be seen, and holding them back helps no one. Plus, if the photos are really good, it's free promotion for the client too. Asking for consent every single time just slows things down. In many cases, it's just understood that great results get shared.
