The one prompt bank I laughed at is now my go-to for every story

About 4 months ago my writing group kept sharing this free prompt generator site, like one of those random word spinner things. I figured it was just junk for people who couldn't think of their own ideas, you know? But one night I was totally stuck on a fantasy piece, deadline in 2 days, and I gave it a shot. The thing threw out a ridiculous combo: a lighthouse keeper who finds a rubber duck with a message inside. I rolled my eyes but typed it anyway, and somehow that dumb premise turned into a 3,000 word story that my group actually liked. Turns out the randomness forces me to stop overthinking my openings, which is my biggest weakness. Has anyone else had a tool or method that looked gimmicky but made your writing better? I'm curious if it's just me or if there's something about constraints that helps.

Man, same here honestly. Used to clown on those generators so hard, but now I grab one whenever I hit a wall. The dumb constraints just trick my brain into actually committing to a first line instead of staring at a blank screen for an hour.
