Update: I used to just ignore my credit report when trying to rent in Austin, but now I get a free copy from AnnualCreditReport.com every 4 months before I even start looking.

I mean, my score jumped 40 points in six months just by fixing an old medical bill that was wrong, so has anyone else found a specific error that really held them back from getting a place?

Wait, don't you mean a free copy from each bureau every year?

Oh man, that reminds me of my credit report mix-up last year.

Yeah, I had a car loan that was still showing as open even though I paid it off years ago. Getting that removed was a game changer for my score!

Funny enough @davis.olivia I used to think credit reports were mostly right and you just had to live with mistakes. Then I found a paid off student loan from 2017 still listed as active and it knocked my score down by like 40 points. Getting them to fix that was a huge pain but totally worth it. I didn't realize how much old stuff gets stuck on there until I actually checked. Now I look at all three reports every few months just to make sure nothing weird is hanging around.
