That conversation with my dad about his phishing email changed my mind on something

He clicked a link that looked like his bank, and when I asked why, he said the email was 'too official' to ignore. It hit me that most people aren't being careless, they just don't know how to spot the really good fakes. Has anyone else had a family member nearly fall for something that looked totally legit?

Friend of mine almost lost his entire savings to a similar one. Dude got an email from what looked exactly like his credit union, logo and everything, saying his account was locked for suspicious activity. He was literally on the phone with the fake number they provided before his wife walked in and asked why he was calling some random area code. That's when he finally looked closer and saw the email address was off by one letter. Scary how good they're getting at this stuff.

Still sounds like a lapse in basic skepticism to me...

Used to roll my eyes when people fell for these. Thought it was just common sense stuff. But seeing how slick some of these fakes are now changed my whole view on it.
