My brother swore by the $5 off coupon trick, ended up costing me $40 extra

He told me to stack coupons on a flash sale for a 4K monitor, but the fine print excluded clearance items and my total jumped after the discount was reversed at checkout. Has anyone else gotten burned by those 'one time use' codes that quietly fail on doorbuster deals?

Man, that stinks! I saw a whole thread about this last week, same thing with gaming laptops. People kept saying the codes were a lock, but the site's system just flipped them off at the last second. These stores do it on purpose, I swear. They know you'll add extra stuff to hit the free shipping line, then the coupon dies and you're stuck paying full price. The fine print is always buried too, like three clicks deep. I always screen-shot the cart total now, just in case. Never trust a coupon until the charge actually posts.
