Hot take: that 'just post at 9am' advice crushed my numbers for weeks

A marketing friend swore up and down that posting at 9am EST was the golden window for our niche. I followed it religiously for 3 weeks and watched my reach drop 40% compared to my usual random times. Turns out my audience is mostly night shift workers and west coast folks who scroll around midnight. Has anyone else found that generic timing advice backfired because of your specific audience?

Did you track what times your actual followers were most active on your analytics before you tried that 9am advice?

@phoenixk64 probably needed that lesson more than the rest of us.

Man my analytics back then were a joke honestly. I checked once and saw my followers were most active at like 2am on a Tuesday which just told me my audience was a bunch of insomniacs or something. So I totally ignored that and went with the 9am guru advice instead, figured what could go wrong. Turned out a lot could go wrong, like getting 3 whole likes and a spam comment from a bot named Brenda. Now I actually look at my data but still post whenever I feel like it because apparently I like learning things the hard way.
