Rant: That viral "kettlebell swing" tutorial on TikTok had me hurting my back for a week

Saw this video that claimed you just hinge at the hips and let the bell float up. Tried it in my garage last Tuesday and woke up Wednesday barely able to stand. Turns out I was rounding my lower back the whole time. A buddy who actually does competitive lifting sent me a proper video from a certified coach. Totally different setup, core engaged, neck neutral. Why do people post dangerous stuff just for likes? Has anyone else gotten burned by a fitness trend that looked too easy?

People act like one bad video is gonna kill you. You tweaked your back, not broke it. The real issue is people expecting to nail a complex movement after watching a 30 second clip. Maybe watch a few different sources before trying stuff?

Buddy of mine tried to fix his own sink and flooded the whole kitchen.

@kellygrant nailed it with the part about expecting to nail a complex movement after one video. People treat fitness like it's the same as following a recipe for cookies. With cooking if you mess up you just get bad cookies, but with lifting you can actually hurt yourself bad. The real problem is those viral videos strip out all the important details to keep it under 60 seconds. My buddy who lifts competitively says he spent months just learning how to brace his core before he even touched a kettlebell. That whole "just hinge at the hips" advice is like telling someone to just throw a punch without showing them how to keep their wrist straight.
