Three years of fighting with adobe walls finally paid off
I bought a place outside Tucson back in 2019 and the walls were a mess. Cracks everywhere, plaster flaking off in chunks. Spent about three years on and off patching, replastering, sealing. Just finally got the last section done last month. The difference is wild - used to feel like the house was slowly falling apart, now it actually looks solid. Anyone else deal with old adobe repairs taking way longer than you planned?

Took me two years just to patch one wall.

@wilson.olivia I get it, two years is rough but old adobe is just gonna take however long it wants... Different approach here though, I found that just accepting the imperfections and working with the natural movement of the walls actually saved me time in the long run. Sometimes fighting the process makes it drag out even worse.

Yeah, "took me two years just to patch one wall" really hits home. I read somewhere that adobe needs to breathe, so the wrong kind of sealant can actually trap moisture and cause more cracking. Found out the hard way after my first attempt with regular paint started peeling within six months. Had to scrape it all off and start over with a lime-based wash.
