Drove 3 hours to a shop that claimed they were 'certified' on Cummins engines
Last month I towed my truck to a place outside St. Louis because their website bragged about being Cummins certified specialists. Turns out their cert was a 2 day online course and the mechanic couldn't even tell me the torque specs on a head bolt without looking at his phone. Has anyone else run into shops that slap a certification sticker on just to charge more?

Sounds like you got burned by marketing.

Ended up grabbing a set of refurbished XT-85s for half the price and they've been solid for two years now. Some random guy on Reddit recommended checking the manufacturer's outlet store instead of Amazon. Saved like $200 and got basically the same thing with a shorter warranty.

Ha @shanec61, but did you check if the refurbished ones actually use newer firmware or just old stock with a fresh label?
