Went with a used ProMax pump over rebuild kit and kinda regretting it

Had a old CAT pump on my service truck that finally gave out after 3000 hours so I had to decide between a $1400 rebuild kit or a $900 used ProMax off Facebook. I figured saving $500 was worth the risk but now the used one is leaking past the packing after only 12 hours of use. Anyone else try buying used pumps and end up kicking yourself for not just rebuilding the original?

Bought a used pressure washer pump off Craigslist a few years back and the thing started making a grinding noise after maybe 2 hours of run time, ended up costing me more in the long run when the bearings finally seized up.

Bought a used pressure washer pump myself and honestly I should've just stuck with my old faithful instead of trying to be a CHEAP date. Now I'm out both the money AND the time.

You ever buy something used and immediately regret it? That was me with a pressure washer pump from a guy on OfferUp. Looked fine in the photos, but after about 30 minutes of spraying, it started leaking oil like crazy. Then the seals blew out completely and I had water shooting everywhere. Spent more time trying to fix it than I ever did just saving up for a new one. Sometimes cheap really does cost you more in the end, right?
