Overheard my neighbor's kid say 'delete' is just 'sending files to a farm upstate' and it hit me hard
I was on my porch last Tuesday in Richmond scrolling through my 14,000 unread emails, and this 8 year old from next door tells his friend that deleting stuff is like sending it to a happy farm where it gets to live. I nearly choked on my tea because honestly, that explains so much about why I keep 47 browser tabs open and 6 copies of the same PDF on my desktop. I treat every file like a pet I might miss if it vanished. My Downloads folder currently has 3,200 items going back to 2019, including a train schedule from a city I visited once. Has anyone else had to talk themselves down from saving a screenshot of a screenshot just in case the original gets deleted?

Ha! My phone has the exact same problem and now I imagine it's just gently herding my typos to a nice pasture too. I spent twenty minutes last night convincing myself that the 2017 grocery list I found on my desktop doesn't need a supervised playdate with the recycling bin. Honestly, at this point my hard drive is basically an emotional support animal for my bad decisions.
