Hit 50 countries last month and it felt weird

I crossed into my 50th country in Cambodia three weeks ago working remote from a hostel in Siem Reap. Took me 4 years of freelancing as a video editor to get there. I thought hitting 50 would feel huge but honestly it just made me realize how many places I rushed through. Anyone else hit a milestone that felt less exciting than you expected?

Idk, hitting 50 countries sounds impressive but also like you'd be exhausted from all the packing and unpacking. I remember feeling weird after fixing my 100th car at the shop like I'd just gone through the motions instead of really enjoying it. Maybe the milestone was more about proving something to yourself than actually feeling different.

Brooke you're missing something here. The whole point of hitting 50 was never about the number itself, it was the reminder that I'd been treating travel like a checklist. Rushing through Angkor Wat to get to the next border crossing instead of just sitting there and soaking it in. That "weird" feeling wasn't disappointment, it was a wake up call to slow down and actually be present in the places I visit.

Man I hit 35 countries and already felt like I needed a vacation from my vacation lol. You nailed it though, that whole "gotta catch em all" mindset ruins the actual experience.
