I was looking at visa rules for Thailand and found out you can't just do border runs forever anymore...

Specifically read on the embassy site that after two visa exemptions by land or air, you have to wait a while or get a proper visa. Found this out after planning to hop over to Malaysia next month. Kind of changes my long-term stay plan here in Chiang Mai. How are other nomads handling the 60-day tourist visa process now?

Just when you get your life set up around the border run cafe and the minivan schedule, they go and change the rules on you. My plan to live here on a diet of visa stamps and 7-Eleven toasties is officially ruined. Now we're all becoming experts in embassy paperwork instead of the best van to the border. Guess it's time to actually look at that education visa for Thai cooking class, but my pad thai is still terrible.

Remember my cousin's visa wedding? Total mess.

That rule change really threw a wrench in a lot of plans, didn't it? Found out the hard way myself last year. Seems like everyone I know is just applying for the 60 day tourist visa from a Thai embassy before they travel now. It's a bit more paperwork but it gives you that solid two months without worry. Then you can still do one extension at immigration inside Thailand. Makes planning a bit less flexible but you get used to it.
