My therapist said my 'clean break' idea was actually holding me back

I was refusing to talk to my ex at all, even about our kid's school stuff, because I thought that was moving on. She pointed out it was just making co-parenting in Cincinnati a nightmare and keeping me angry. How do you find that line between healthy distance and making things work?

So what's your new plan for the school emails?

Cincinnati co-parenting is a whole different ball game. Your therapist is right, that clean break fantasy just hurts your kid.

Ever notice how we're sold this idea of a perfect, simple life? Movies, ads, all of it. @colescott is right about that clean break fantasy. It's like wanting a spotless house with kids. Not real. That fantasy makes people feel like failures when their life is messy. Co-parenting is messy work, but it's the real work. Choosing the messy real thing over the simple fantasy is what actually helps your kid.
