Used to split every single expense 50/50 with my ex down to the penny, now I just Venmo my friend for pizza and don't even check the amount.
After the divorce last year I stopped tracking every dollar like it was a war, and honestly it's way less stressful not keeping score all the time, has anyone else noticed how much easier money feels when you're not fighting over it?

It's wild how a breakup can transform your whole relationship with money like that.

@olivia670 that prepaid debit card trick is actually genius, I might have to steal that. For me the wakeup call was realizing I had been paying for a premium dating app subscription for six months after the breakup without ever opening it once. I mean, that's just embarrassing on so many levels. At least I'm saving money now even if I'm not saving face.

Right after my last breakup I had to sit down and actually look at my bank account for the first time in months, realized I was bleeding cash on takeout and dumb subscriptions. I started putting every single purchase on a prepaid debit card for a few months, just enough to cover rent and bills, and it forced me to only spend what I physically had left. Sometimes you gotta make things inconvenient to break those bad habits, you know?
