TIL drywall dust gets into EVERYTHING if you don't seal the room right
Just finished patching three holes in my living room wall last weekend over in Phoenix. Taped off the doorway with just a sheet and some painters tape, figured it'd be fine. Nope. Two days later I'm still finding a fine layer of dust on my TV stand and in my coffee mug. Has anyone else figured out a cheap way to keep that stuff contained without buying a $200 plastic zipper door kit?

Box fan in the window set to exhaust. Keeps the negative pressure pulling dust away from the rest of the house. Painter's plastic over the door frame with strong tape around all four edges works fine for me.

Wait, have you ever had a box fan just decide to stop working in the middle of the night? I had one that seized up on me once, right in the middle of sanding drywall. @mark_chen62 that negative pressure setup is smart but man, I spent like an hour trying to unstick the blades on a fan that was making this grinding noise and finally just threw it out. Painter's plastic is a lifesaver though, I always use the blue tape instead of the regular stuff because I've had tape rip paint off the doorframe before, which is a pain to fix.

Have you tried using a low RPM fan so it doesn't burn out as easy? @wade_kelly77 that drywall dust is brutal on bearings, I switched to a cheap window unit after killing two box fans the same way.
