Old-timer told me to run the cutter at half speed in clay and I laughed at him

Tried it last month on a job near Baton Rouge and the thing just chugged through like butter. I'd been burning through tips for two years running full throttle and wondering why I kept breaking teeth. Anyone else have a senior operator drop some simple advice that saved you money?

Slow and steady wins the race in everything.

Running full throttle with brand new tips in that Louisiana clay and you'll never have to worry about gumming up because they'll shatter before they get the chance. My uncle swapped to diamond tipped blades after blowing through three sets of standard carbide in six months and never looked back.

Your uncle gets it. Diamond tips are brutal but they last.
