Rant: I bought a $400 handheld sonar unit for my cutterhead and it saved my whole week on the Mississippi.
It showed me a buried steel cable right before we started cutting, so we moved the barge and avoided a huge mess.

My buddy dropped his phone in a lake last summer and that waterproof case saved him like eight hundred bucks. I swear tech like that feels like finding money in an old coat pocket. You just get this wave of relief knowing you dodged a total disaster. It's the best kind of purchase, the one you hope you never actually need.

Oh man, that's awesome it worked out. Just a tiny thing though, that's a magnetometer looking for metal, not sonar. Sonar would be for like, finding the bottom or fish. Still super smart to have on board.
