Can we talk about taping inside corners with a banjo?

I was on a job last Tuesday and this old timer told me he never uses a banjo for inside corners because it leaves too much mud at the peak. He just pre-fills with a 6 inch knife and tapes by hand. Has anyone else run into mud buildup issues with a banjo on inside corners or is he just stuck in his ways?

Seems like he's just set in his ways, I've used a banjo on inside corners for years with no issues.

My buddy Lenny tried that trick on a Victorian with those curved interior walls. @brooket43 you might have steady hands but he ended up with a 6 inch gash in the plaster. Took him two hours with joint compound to fix it. Said his banjo was slipping all over the place on that radius.

@henryt18 I feel you on that one. I had a similar experience on a job with some wonky old walls (they were like 1/4 inch out of plumb in places). I tried using my banjo on the inside corners and ended up with this thick ridge of mud at the peak that just wouldn't sand smooth. Ended up having to scrape it back and redo it by hand, which was a pain. For me, the pre-fill with a 6 inch knife and hand taping just gave me way better control, especially on those tight corners where the banjo feels like it's fighting you.
