Chatted with a 30-year veteran at lunch yesterday
I was grabbing a sandwich at the job site diner and this older guy sat down and started talking about how he never uses metal corner bead anymore, just paper faced. He said it cuts his finishing time by about 40% and he hasn't had a crack in 15 years. Has anyone else made the switch away from metal and stuck with it?

Oh man you gotta try the paper faced stuff lol. I switched about 8 years ago after fighting with metal corner bead forever and I’m not going back. The trick is getting your mud a little stiffer than you think, almost like peanut butter, and it sets up perfect without bubbles. No more dents either if some clown bumps it with a ladder. It just takes some getting used to how flexible it feels at first.

Taking it easy on the mud is key to avoiding bubbles, but your mileage may vary with different brands.

Oh man I remember my first time trying paper faced bead, I was so worried it would peel off or something. My buddy handed me a roll and said just trust it so I did a closet corner in my own house first as a test. That was like 12 years ago and that corner still looks perfect even after my kid bounced a basketball off it.
