Cut a panel too short for a Reno kitchen ceiling and had to get creative
Was up on the lift in this old house, realized my cut was a full inch shy. Ended up floating a new joint with some 20-minute mud and a wider knife, saved the whole sheet. Anyone ever patch a gap that big without pulling it down?

Once had to fill a gap in drywall with a whole strip of cardboard and a ton of mud. It held for years until they sold the place. Sometimes the hack job is the permanent fix.

held for years" is the key part though. that's just luck, not a fix. next owner probably had to redo it right and pay for it.

Exactly, that's the whole game right there @scott.olivia. The real skill isn't doing it right, it's making sure the hack job lasts until it's someone else's problem. Cardboard and mud holding for years is a weird kind of home improvement win. The next person just gets a fun surprise and a new project.
