I finally tried that flat box technique on inside corners
Watched a guy on YouTube do this fancy flat box method for inside corners where you load the mud different. Tried it on a closet job in Decatur yesterday and the whole corner caved in after 20 minutes. Looked like I threw a bucket of mud at the wall. Going back to my old way with two knives.

Man, that flat box trick is like the drywall version of a magic trick that kills the magician. I tried it once on a bathroom corner in a house from the 1920s and the mud sagged so bad it looked like a sad waterfall. Went back to my two knives real quick after that. Some YouTube guys make it look easy but they're probably using studio lights and a fresh box of patience I don't have.

I once tried a new mud mix on a ceiling and it rained down on my head for an hour.

I had a similar thing happen with a ceiling patch job last summer. Used this new fast-set compound from the hardware store, thought it would save time. Mixed it up, slapped it on, and within ten minutes it started cracking and falling off in big chunks. Spent the next two hours cleaning up crumbly mud from the floor and my hair. Learned my lesson about reading the fine print on those quick-dry mixes.
