I was cutting my drywall sheets wrong for years and didn't know it

I always used a utility knife and a straight edge, scoring and snapping. It worked, but the edges were never perfect, especially on the factory side. Last month, I was helping a buddy on a big Reno job and saw him use a drywall router with a guide. He cut a perfect rectangle for a ceiling light box in about 10 seconds, no dust cloud from a saw. I tried it the next day on a bathroom remodel. My cutouts for plumbing are now clean every single time, no more shimming or patching ragged edges. What other basic tools or tricks did I miss out on for way too long?

A drywall router sounds wild, what else did your buddy show you?

Man, the drywall router is a game changer. I felt the same way when I finally used a self-feeding drill bit for plumbing holes. No more fighting the drill or tearing up the paper. Another one is just using a good quality carbide grit sanding block instead of a screen. It sounds small, but it cuts way faster and doesn't gum up.

Seems like overkill for drywall but hey @julia_carter61 maybe your buddy knows something.
