Switched from mesh tape to paper tape on inside corners after a job in St. Louis
Took me about 10 minutes per corner but the crisp finish was night and day compared to the bubbles I'd get with mesh. Has anyone else noticed paper tape holds up better in humid basements?

Ditched mesh tape like two years ago and never looked back. Paper just grabs the mud better and doesn't bubble up when the air gets damp. @nancy_wood nailed it about humidity wrecking mesh tape it's like the glue just gives up. St. Louis basements are brutal so paper tape is the right call for sure. Even if it takes a few extra minutes the crisp finish is totally worth it.

Paper tape was a TOTAL game changer for me in my own basement last year. That place gets damp like crazy and the mesh tape kept bubbling up no matter how careful I was with the mud. Switched to paper and never looked back - it pulled tight and stayed flat even after a few humid weeks. Took me a bit longer too at first but the finish was SO much cleaner. St. Louis summers are brutal for basements so you made a smart move.

Honestly, that reminds me of the time I tried using mesh tape in my bathroom reno thinking it would be faster. Dude, it was a disaster. The humidity from the shower made it peel up within a week and I had to redo the whole corner. I got so frustrated I just threw some paper tape on there and it's been solid for like two years now. Never going back to mesh tape again even if it saves me time upfront.
