The week everything went wrong on a single job in Richmond

Last spring I had a week where every board seemed to fight me, from a ceiling that had a 3 inch bow in it to a door frame that was framed 2 inches off from the plans. By Thursday I had already gone through an extra box of screws and my trowel was acting up because of some grit in the compound I didn't catch. Has anyone else had a run where it felt like the building itself was against you, or was that just my bad luck?

Had a bathroom tile job where the floor slope turned out to be backwards and I had to rip it all out and start over.

Yeah but hold on, nelson.wren, you're missing something here. If the whole floor slope is backwards, that's not just a high spot situation. Water's gonna pool right at the drain or run toward the wall. Grinding or skim coating won't fix the direction of the fall. And @theajohnson, I feel your pain on that one, man. That's a gut punch when you realize it's wrong after everything's set.

Gotta disagree with you on this one. If the shower pan was laid with proper bonding and the tile itself had good coverage, correcting the slope could mean just grinding down the high spots instead of demolition. I've seen guys tear out perfectly good tile work when a simple skim coat of mortar over the low areas would fix it. Honestly, sometimes the "professional" way isn't the only way if the structural stuff is sound.
