Rant: PS2 still beats the GameCube and I'll die on that hill

Had a chat with my buddy Dave at the retro shop on Broadway last Saturday, and he swore the GameCube library was deeper. I told him he's forgetting the PS2 had Gran Turismo 4, Final Fantasy X, and the whole Monster Hunter series before it blew up. How many GameCube exclusives actually hold up today besides the Zelda remakes and Metroid Prime?

Damn right! My buddy tried telling me the Cube had better games too. He was dead wrong.

...and I read this breakdown online that said the PS2 had like 800 more games than the GameCube in North America alone. That's just numbers right there. Plus the PS2 kept getting big titles long after the Cube died off, stuff like Persona 4 and God of War 2 came out way late in its life. My cousin swears by his GameCube for Smash Bros and Wind Waker but even he admits the PS2 library has way more variety. He can't name ten Cube exclusives that aren't Nintendo first party stuff.

Nah man I gotta push back on this. You're counting numbers but not quality. The GameCube had a tighter library where almost everything was a banger. Resident Evil 4 launched on Cube first and looked way better than the PS2 port that came later. Metroid Prime alone is one of the best games ever made, and you can't get that anywhere else. F-Zero GX still feels like a next gen game today. And honestly your cousin's right about exclusives - who cares if the PS2 had a thousand more games when half of them were crappy movie tie-ins and sports games that all blend together? The Cube's first party stuff is legendary but people forget about gems like Eternal Darkness, Baten Kaitos, and Viewtiful Joe that never touched PS2.
