Finally gave up on the old hot air station and the difference is wild
For years I used a cheap hot air station from a starter kit, always fighting with it on small components. Last week I switched to a proper Hakko unit for a tough board repair. The precise temperature control and steady airflow meant I got a clean BGA reflow on the first try, something that used to take me three attempts. Has anyone else found that one tool upgrade just made everything click?

That "clean BGA reflow on the first try" part really hits home. I used to think I just needed more practice with my old gear, but sometimes the tool is actually holding you back. Getting a piece of equipment that works with you instead of against you changes the whole game. What was the toughest job you tried with your old station?

Remember trying to fix a laptop GPU like @wade_kelly77 mentioned, the old hot air gun just cooked everything around the chip. Upgrading felt like cheating.

Tell me about it. My old station was so bad I thought I had a nerve disorder from all the shaking. Upgraded to something decent and realized my hands are fine, the tool was just garbage. That first clean reflow felt less like a win and more like an apology to all the boards I murdered.
