Swore by high-end cleansers for 8 years til a client in Austin made me try drugstore stuff
I had this client, came in every month for facials, always had perfect skin. One day I asked her what she used at home and she said Cetaphil. I laughed thinking she was joking but she was dead serious. I actually tried it for a week and my skin looked better than with my $50 cleanser. Now I keep both in my cabinet but honestly I reach for the cheap one way more. Anyone else have a product category where the budget stuff just works better for you?

I mean I had pretty much the same thing happen but with moisturizer. My aunt who's a dermatologist kept pushing some fancy $80 cream on me for years and I finally gave in but it just made me break out. Then my buddy who does construction and doesn't give a crap about skincare gave me a tube of that cheap Cerave stuff from Target and it's been my go-to ever since. Sometimes I think we overcomplicate this stuff because the brands tell us we need to. The expensive stuff definitely has its place for certain skin issues but for everyday basic maintenance the drugstore stuff just does the job without the fuss.

@beth_park You hit the nail on the head. My wife swore by this high end serum, tried it for months and it did nothing. Then I grabbed a bottle of that Olay stuff from the grocery store and my skin actually looked better. It's like we get brainwashed into thinking we need the fancy brands when the basics work fine. I'm with you, for most people just washing and moisturizing with something simple is all you really need.

Honestly that Cerave stuff is legit. My girlfriend got me that big tub of the moisturizing cream because she was tired of me stealing hers and I was mad about it at first. Now I use it every day and my face feels better than when I was using that fancy $40 stuff from Sephora. Ngl I think the whole skincare industry is mostly just good marketing and pretty bottles.
