My smart fridge's recipe app bricked itself after a firmware update last Tuesday.
I was in the middle of cooking and the screen just froze on a loading icon for 45 minutes. Had to do a full factory reset and lost all my custom settings. Is this kind of planned obsolescence for connected appliances a fad or the future of home tech?

But the convenience is totally worth the bugs!

My old washing machine lasted 20 years, and my new one needs a software patch just to run a rinse cycle. Honestly, this feels like the future, and it's a bad one where everything we own is just a subscription waiting to fail. I get what @hall.jenny is saying about convenience, but that only works if the tech is actually reliable. Tbh, I'm starting to miss dumb appliances that just do their one job without needing an internet connection to function.

It's not even planned obsolescence, it's just bad software. These companies can't even make a fridge app that works, let alone a smart one.
