My uncle told me to check the source on a viral story about a shark in a flooded Walmart
I saw the video last week and almost shared it, but he said to look up the original news station that covered it. Turns out it was a fake from a comedy site in 2017, but it gets shared every hurricane season. How many other old hoaxes are just cycling around again?

Your uncle gave you solid advice. Always reverse image search or check the upload date on videos. That shark clip does the rounds every single year. I run into the same fake stories about celebrities dying or military conscription starting back up. Takes two minutes to check Snopes or a fact check site. Saves you from looking silly later.

Absolutely, it's wild how often the same stuff gets recycled. My cousin nearly shared that fake "moon landing" video from 2012 last week. A quick check would've saved him the embarrassment.

Read an article about how these old hoaxes get more engagement during big news events. Makes sense why they keep popping up.
