Local news ran a story about 'outrage' over a crosswalk being 3 inches too narrow. Nobody was actually angry.

I saw a segment on KREM 2 in Spokane last night about how drivers are 'furious' over a downtown crosswalk being 3 inches narrower than code. The reporter interviewed exactly one guy who just shrugged and said he didn't care. I called the city planning office this morning and they confirmed they got zero complaints. Is the news just manufacturing drama to fill airtime or am I missing something?

Wait you actually CALLED the city planning office to check on that? That's some real dedication to finding out the truth. I can't believe they confirmed zero complaints, that's wild. So basically the whole story was built on thin air and one bored reporter chasing a non-story. This is why I stopped watching local news unless there's a weather emergency, it's just filler drama now.

@paige_robinson24 yeah that "filler drama" stuff is everywhere now, not just news.

I get what you're saying about filler drama, but I actually think local news still has value beyond weather emergencies. The key is finding reporters who dig into real stuff like city budgets and school board decisions, not just chasing viral moments. I've caught some genuinely important stories from my local station that nobody else was covering, even if I have to sit through some fluff to find them.
