Heads up - that new farrier supply place in Lexington has bad forge coke
So I stopped by All-Tack Supply on Richmond Road last Tuesday to grab some coke for my portable forge. Figured I'd try their house brand since it was $8 less per 50lb bag than what I usually get from Kentucky Horse Supply. Big mistake. That stuff clumped up real bad and wouldn't get past a dull orange heat, just sat there smoking. I had to dump my whole forge and start over with my regular stuff. Lost almost an hour on my shoeing schedule. Anyone else run into bad coke from a new supplier lately?

My neighbor bought a bag of that stuff and his forge looked like a smoke signal factory.

Wait, does that stuff actually smoke up that bad? I used to think people were overreacting about that brand, but after hearing what @pat_murray53 said about the neighbor's forge I'm starting to change my mind.

Yeah, I mean I've seen it firsthand so I'm not surprised at all @pat_murray53 had that issue. Does your neighbor use one of those cheap side draft forges or a propane setup? I ask because I tried a bag of that brand once in a bottom blast forge and it smoked so bad my neighbor called the fire department. Like, the smoke was this greasy black cloud that hung around for hours. Just wondering if the forge type makes it worse or if it's the fuel itself being garbage.
