Heard a trainer at the local show tell a rider 'your horse is walking on eggshells'
I was at the county fairgrounds last week and overheard a trainer talking to a rider about her horse's gait. She said the horse was 'walking on eggshells' and it was likely a foot balance issue, not a training one. It made me stop and really look at how the horse was landing, and I think she was right about the long toe. Have you ever had a client come to you after a comment like that changed their mind about needing a trim?

That phrase makes so much sense. It's that careful, tentative step like they're afraid to put weight down. I've seen it happen when a trimmer just keeps taking the toe back without addressing a high heel. The horse starts landing toe-first because the angle is all wrong. It's amazing how fast they move better once you get that breakover point in the right spot.

Totally get that. I once tried to fix my own shoes with a kitchen knife and ended up walking like a cartoon character for a week. Same idea of messing up the balance, just way less graceful than a horse.

My neighbor's dog started walking funny last year because his nails got too long. The vet said it was like wearing shoes that were curled up at the toes, forcing him to walk on the front of his paw pads. It's the same idea, right? We see this in so many places where one part gets ignored and the whole system has to compensate. Fix that one spot and the whole movement just flows naturally again.
